Marketplace Fee Calculator FAQ

Why are fees not built in?

Marketplaces change fees often and charge different rates by country, category and seller plan. Entering current rates keeps the result accurate.

Is the fee charged on shipping?

On many marketplaces the percentage fee applies to the total including shipping.

Where do I find the rates?

On the marketplace’s seller fee page or your seller dashboard.

Does it include taxes?

No. Tax collected for authorities is not your revenue.

Are fees charged on shipping too?

On many marketplaces, yes. Check whether your platform calculates the percentage on the item price only or on the total the buyer pays.

Fees add up

A 13% referral fee, a fixed fee and fulfilment can take a third of a low-priced item’s sale. Checking the payout before listing avoids products that sell well but earn little.

Compare the same product across marketplaces and your own shop to see where it earns most.

Example: an item sold for 50 plus 5 shipping, with a 15% referral fee on the total (8.25), a 0.30 fixed fee and 3% payment processing (1.65), leaves you 44.80 before product, packaging and postage costs.

Marketplaces calculate fees on different bases – some include shipping, some charge per listing, some add advertising fees – so enter the figures from your marketplace’s current fee page. Fee schedules change, and category rates can differ widely.
